Reckless 40L

Just perfect! The stargazer color looks great on my 23 890 Adventure R. Plenty of room for packing. The more trips I do on my bike the more I realize being a minimalist is key. Big shout out to Mosko Moto for supporting Military and First Responders. Thank you!

Reckless v3 40

I’ve had these bags since 2021 and I have use them hard off road and they have held up amazing. The customer service alone is a good enough reason to buy these bags whenever I’ve had a small issue or problem it’s been fixed with zero hassle.

Reckless 40

So far so good!! First short trip was a total success. Love the expandability offered by the beavertail. Use the Stinger 8 regularly as a tail bag on daytrips and commuting. Heading out on a 5 day trip next week, will check back after that to share how it fared on the multiday trip.

Dual sport adventure

The Reckless 40 turns my little CRF300 into a pack mule good for a week off the grid, without making it a bloated adventure whale. Build quality is on the "bulletproof" end of the scale. It has the versatility to serve as the basis for a packing system from 28L up to 70+L, or as a small standalone 8L tail pack. It's super quick to pull the dry bags off and put them on, and even completely removing or reinstalling the base is only a matter of minutes.

Reckless 40L (V3.0)

An updated version of the Reckless 40L (v4.0) is on its way! The black color is arriving in September, and the High Desert and Woodland colors should be here later in October. (Click the blue Notify Me button to get an email when it arrives. Pro Tip: If you don’t see the Notify Me button refresh your browser.)

The Reckless 40L (V3.0) is a rackless luggage system that easily mounts on almost any motorcycle. We designed this bag for long day trips, motel-hopping, and minimalist camping off your bike. The Reckless 40L is 100% waterproof, with three separate removable welded-seam drybags that slide/strap into an outer harness.

On smaller enduros, the R40 is an awesome way to pack light and turn your motorcycle into a mini adventure bike to ride more technical terrain and access hard-to-reach backcountry spots. For Baja motel-hoppers, you can easily fit a change of clothes, shoes, tools, tubes, a warm jacket, and your dop kit. The R40 also works as an excellent day ride bag that can live on your bike full time.

(Download Footprint and Scale Guide here.)

V3.0 adds a number of important upgrades. The width of the harness is now adjustable, with one setting for enduro and trail bikes, and a second setting for wider dualsport and adventure bikes. The beavertail on the center harness is removable, plus we added an expansion panel on the beavertail to accommodate a larger tailbag like the Stinger 22L Tailbag. We changed the construction of the leg harness, replacing sewn seams with rivets, to reduce the risk of seam separation in a crash. Also, the three-piece design makes the harness much easier to repair, plus you can replace components individually. We also changed the design of the mounting straps and most major buckles, to make them easier to replace/repair in the field.

The Reckless 40 includes three waterproof roll-top drybags, that can be easily accessed throughout the day. You don't have to mess with the holster attachment straps to get to food, clothes, or tools. The side drybags have clear panels on the front, so you can tell which bag has what you need, and they have stiffeners in the back to reduce movement while riding and make it easier to slide into the holster. They also have webbing handles at the bottom, so they can be pulled into the holster from the bottom.

The default center tailbag on the Reckless 40 is our Stinger 8L Tailbag. It turns into a backpack with mesh straps that unfold from inside the bag, in case you want to go for a day hike or run into town for errands. The Stinger 8 also has 4 sewn-on connection straps with matching ladder locks, so it can be rigged as a standalone fender bag, tail bag, or pannier topper. To expand the capacity of your Reckless 40, you can replace the Stinger 8L Tailbag with a Stinger 22L Tailbag. The Stinger 22’s larger dimensions are great for bulkier items, like a sleeping bag in a stuff sack.

The Reckless 40 has sewn-on rear pockets on both sides, which are perfect for storing fuel bottles, water, tools, and tubes. On top, the R40’s removable beavertail is a great spot to tuck a motorcycle jacket when it’s not in use, or to store wet or dirty things - like a tent fly, towel, or campsite garbage. The beavertail is removable, so you can take it off when you don’t need it, and it can be rotated to run either parallel or perpendicular to the bike. On the top of the beavertail and front of the leg holsters, there are MOLLE panels so you can customize the harness with various MOLLE accessories.

The Reckless 40 includes one Cleat Kit, which can be bolted to the rear fender of the bike, providing a convenient lash point for the rear connection straps. For a more permanent and secure mounting option, you can also drill directly through the harness and mount it directly to the rear fender (this will not void your warranty).

Please Note:

Every Reckless 80 and Reckless 40 comes with an included heat shield. Please use the heat shield! Exhaust and exhaust heat burns are not covered by your warranty. Before you leave for your trip, we recommend checking and double-checking that no part of the bag or your bike's plastics are contacting the exhaust. On dual-exhaust bikes or bikes with especially high/exposed pipes, you will need a second heat shield, which is available for purchase in the 'Hardware & Parts" section of our website. When installing the Reckless system on your bike, please make sure the exhaust is not blowing directly on the bag. In general, make sure the bag is not touching or close to extreme heat; go physically around the bag daily, cinch it tight, and make any necessary adjustments.

The Reckless 80 and Reckless 40 were designed for rugged riding. They have a durable Hypalon and ballistic nylon backing that can rub against the plastic parts of the bike, resulting in minor abrasion. Please take precautions if you do not want your bike parts marred by placing a clear adhesive sheet where abrasion may occur on your motorcycle. Some examples of protective products are listed below. We suggest taking a short test ride with protection applied and with a loaded Reckless installed on the bike to assure satisfactory results.

There are many "wear points" on the Reckless system that are different on every bike. See this video for examples. These could be on the bottom of the bag - where the harness touches the bike or luggage rack - or on the drybags themselves, where they contact the harness, tent poles, or other items. After your first day or two of riding, please inspect the bags carefully, identify high-friction wear points, and either remedy the friction or apply a sacrificial 'patch' that can be periodically replaced before the bag itself is damaged. In particular, it is normal for the fabric on the bottom of the harness to show wear, and this does not affect the structural integrity of the bag nor its waterproofing.

  • If friction causes the fabric on the bottom of your bag to wear through, this is not a big deal. There is a hard plastic plate inside the Reckless harness that will prevent friction from reaching your drybags and thereby affecting the functionality of the system. Fabric, vibrating under pressure between the hard plastic inside the harness and a hard metal bike part, will eventually wear out. To prevent this, apply a sacrificial patch to the wear point, or apply some padding on the bike.
  • If your connection straps are wrapping around a sharp metal edge, for example on a bag mounting cleat, foot peg, or luggage rack, and the straps begin to show signs of wear, it is critical to address the wear before the strap is too far worn to use. Either file/grind the sharp edge, or apply (and maintain) a sacrificial 'sleeve' for the webbing made from fabric, additional webbing, or duct tape. A sharp metal edge vibrating under pressure will eventually wear through webbing, sometimes quickly. If this occurs, take some extra webbing to a local sewing shop and they should be able to easily repair the damage.
